Another quick lineage breakdown...
A sweet cakey blend of cream and grape, this cross bring two powerhouses together for a unique experience. To further understand this genetic, let's dive in each of its parents!
Wedding Cake: Parent of WC x GDP Strain
Wedding Cake is the name the Jungle Boys gave to a clone-only phenotype of Triangle Mints (Triangle Mints #23), originally bred by Seed Junky Genetics, due to its crazy vanilla cake frosting smell. Also known as Pink Cookies in Canada, Wedding Cake is a combination of the legendary Triangle Kush mother to an Animal Mints male. A mostly indica variety, it can be cultivated both indoor and outdoor.
Growing tall and doubling in size in flower, she yields heavy, dense buds with a vanilla, pine, and lemon nose. Wedding Cake is/was never available as feminized seeds.
Granddaddy Purple (GDP): Parent of WC x GDP Strain
Granddaddy Purple (GDP) is a famous indica strain that has reached legendary status throughout the cannabis culture. Notably promoted and curated by Ken Estes, its lineage is somewhat shrouded in mystery. Thought to be a cross between Purple Urkle and Salmon Creek Big Bud, as well as the eventual offspring of Afghani x Buddha x Thai x Acapulco Gold x Columbian Gold x Panama Red, as well as Mendo Purps x Skunk x Afghani, it's breeding legacy is largely credited to Chris Giauque of the Humboldt-Mendocino County Spyrock area.
Chris Giauque was unfortunately thought to have been murdered the evening of August 9, 2003. The possible motive being that while Chris was in prison on a cannabis charge, his business partner was making and spending more than his share of the profits generated from one of their Spyrock properties.
Bob Giauque, Chris' father, believes this was a set up killing as Chris’ partner did not have the funds owed to Chris.
At some point, Ken Estes - known for moving weight of Chris Giauque's GDP - eventually acquires a cut/seeds of it. The manner in which he does so is speculative at best, although he seemingly is credited for the massive popularity of it.
The story about Ken Estes receiving the GDP cut/seeds from some Native Americans is rumored to be false as well, as one user named Wuachuma from Overgrow.com claims.
Similarly, in regards to the lineage of the Granddaddy Purple strain, the same user - Wuachuma - sheds some light on its relatives in the screenshot below.
Known for its deep purple hues and sweet, fruity flavor, often with grape and berry undertones, GDP provides a deeply relaxing body effect. It has been commonly used to alleviate stress, pain, insomnia, and muscle spasms. The strain typically induces a sense of euphoria and can be quite sedative, making it popular for nighttime use. It also boasts dense, resinous buds, contributing to its visual appeal and potency.
Wedding Cake x Granddaddy Purple (GDP) : A Legendary Legacy
Obviously, this cross is packed with history for the right and wrong reasons. With lineages that breeders have unfortunately left behind, others continue working to keep them alive, such as this cross from Shoreline Genetics.
If you're the type of person that values having some of the best among the rest, I encourage you to reward yourself with a pack of Wedding Cake x GDP seeds before the world passes you by. Afterall, you didn't get this far for no reason!
